This solo guitar piece is my meditation on O Salutaris Hostia, a centuries-old Eucharistic hymn. No lyrics -- just the voice of the instrument, reaching toward mystery, mercy, and grace.
This solo guitar piece is my meditation on O Salutaris Hostia, a centuries-old Eucharistic hymn traditionally sung during Adoration. I approached it not as a performance, but as a quiet offering an attempt to translate reverence into sound.
There are no lyrics here, only the voice of the instrument. Each note is shaped by silence, by breath, by the slow unfolding of a prayer. The melody is simple, almost fragile, but it carries the weight of longing and grace.
I recorded this with just one guitar, making three passes at it. The first time it's just a single melodic line. Chords accompany the melody in the next pass. Finally, natural harmonics deliver the music with their shimmering ethereality.
This is music for stillness. For reflection.
