The words to Yes OL Friend were inspired by the memory of our precious son we lost in a terrible accident 13 years ago. Loosing a child is the hardest thing that any couple could ever have to endure. There is not a single day that goes by that you dont think of them or you see and encounter something that reminds you of them. His wife was two months pregnant at the time of his death; so, we do have a precious grandchild that allows us to see glimpses of him. I travel a lot with my job and as I was reminded each day and those memories the following words came to me.
YES OL FRIEND
2006, Thomas W. Boyd
Verse 1
WE LOST YOU OL' FRIEND A FEW YEARS A GO
THE LORD'S REASON WHY WE SHALL NEVER KNOW
SO WHILE WE ENDURE LIFE'S SORROW AND PAIN
GOD PROMISES US WEll BE TOGETHER AGAIN
Chorus
YES OL' FRIEND, OUR LOVE WON'T END
YES OL' FRIEND, WE'LL MEET AGAIN
YES OL' FRIEND, WE'LL FOLLOW YOU HOME
YES OL' FRIEND, TO GOD'S GREAT THRONE
Verse 2
WE KNOW THAT YOU KNEW THAT OUR LOVE WAS TRUE
BUT WE CAN'T HELP WEEP AND EACH DAY STILL BLUE
THOUGH LIFE IS SO SAD NOW THAT YOU ARE GONE
WE HOPE TO SOME DAY JOIN YOU IN GOD'S HOME
Repeat Chorus
Verse 3
GOD CALLED YOU BACK HOME BEFORE YOU COULD KNOW
SUCH A PRECIOUS SON YOUD BE PROUD TO HOLD
WHO'S SO MUCH LIKE YOU IN SO MANY WAYS
NOW JESUS AND YOU WATCH OVER WHILE HE PLAYS
Repeat Chorus
Verse 4
WE RECALL THE SMILE AND YOUR SILLY GRIN
YOUR MEMORY WILL BE WITH US TILL LIFE ENDS
SO SOME GLORIOUS DAY ON GOD'S WONDROUS SHORE
WHEN WE MEET AGAIN WE WILL SORROW NO MORE
Repeat Chorus
Disclaimer:
I admit that I am not an accomplished singer and I cant sing very well. I also admit that I am not a professional musician; I am strictly an amateur musician (Harmonica player). I am a Gospel Songwriter and I write all the lyrics and music for the song that I distribute/publish. All songs that I distribute/publish are created so those that hear them can get a feel for how I think the song should sound as a finished product. I in no way represent these songs are finished products; they are rough demos for critique and evaluation purposes of the lyrics and melody. Tom Boyd
